Links to the film/wine/food are always good. In this case there was a direct link between Carey Mulligan and the wine Ian provided for the evening. Carey picked Ian's winning raffle ticket from the tombola at Walberswick fete. The Bulgarian wine was paired with a US west coast Pinot Noir to see if we could identify the two wines. Nobody guessed the wine came from Bulgaria, but a number of people were able to recognise the Pinot Noir. There were sausage rolls, Jim's favourite mustard, and the ususal cheese and bread selection.
Carey Mulligan plays Cassie, a med school dropout, who decides to avenge her friend's suicide by embarking on a mission to punish predatory men. She tempts men to take advantage of her by pretending to be drunk and then just before they go too far she sobers up to ask them what they think they are doing. This process seems to be working quite well for her judging by the number of conquests(?) she has recorded in her log book. However, it starts to go wrong when she finds a man she actually likes. The film won Best Original Screenplay at the Academey Awards in 2021. It was also nominated for best picture, director and actress.
The film generated a good deal of discussion. Was she a bad person or just a sociopath?
