The Road to Wellville is the story of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg. Kellogg was well known in the 1900's as the director of the  Battle Creek Sanitarium. It combined aspects of a European spa, a hydrotherapy institution, a hospital and high-class hotel. Kellogg also developed the cornflake. He had some strange views, he actively promoted vegetarianism, nutrition, the use of yogurt enemas to clear "intestinal flora", exercise, sun-bathing, and hydrotherapy, as well as the abstention from smoking tobacco, drinking alcoholic beverages, and sexual activity.

The film stars Anthony Hopkins as the very odd John Harvey Kellogg trying to run his sanitarium while in the background his guests all have problems of thier own and are not always responding well to treatment! The film had lot's of scope for humour - although most of it was a bit slapstick. The backstory is more intresting that the film. We had a couple of sleepers which were thefore not allowed to vote! The film score was split there were as many people scoring 12/13 as 4/5 out of 20. The film scored a very poor 45%. However, the food and wine score was 93% mainly because of the excellent fizz (we had to use our skills to identify a french, english and spanish fizz). I liked the english one best from our very own vineyard Saffron Grange. Mike provided hand made canape as well as a range of cheese. Mike had also made choclate cornflake nibbles to enjoy during the film.

The backstory was fascinating - who knew Kellogg cornflakes were designed as a healthy food. Instead they are now viewed as not so nutritious.
